I spoke yesterday to 150 women at a great event in Northern Illinois called WEDO. Women’s Economic Development Outreach is a coalition of women leaders who work together to bring information and resources to businesswomen. I had the opportunity today to be the luncheon speaker.

I typically end my presentations with a quote from Ernest Shackelton, the great polar explorer who in 1914 tried to cross the South Pole. I talk about how his famous ad in the London Times looking for a crew is exactly what being an entrepreneur is all about:

“Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small Wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness,
constant danger, safe return doubtful.Honor and Recognition in case of Success.”

After the presentation today, a women comes up to me to congratulate me on the excellent talk. She thanks me for honoring her father’s legacy. Apparently, he was part of Shackleton’s crew on this ill fated adventure!

I am off to Ottawa, Canada today to speak at the Ottawa Venture Fair.
