Marketing a Bank During These Times

I was at Citibank today (one of the chosen few left standing). Outside, they had a sign proudly saying they were giving a 4% interest rate on a 6 month CD (That looks pretty good now, doesn’t it!). I liked their marketing pitch:

Confidence is good. Earning it is better. At Citibank, you can feel confident with a short term CD at a great rate. All from a bank you can trust.”

I guess the logic goes,  if you are left standing as a bank during this financial meltdown, I can trust you because there is no one else to trust. It’s either that or keep it in your mattress.
