Letting Go of the Outcome

Process needs to trump outcome. This is nearly an impossible goal because regardless of what we say, the common belief is that the ends always justify the means. It doesn’t matter how we get there, as long as the outcome is a good one of us.

During these tough times, it is important to let go of a specific outcome. We need to be flexible or we are bound to end of disappointed or disgruntled much of the time. Be diligent in formulating the best process that you can. Weigh the alternatives carefully, but then take an action that you believe will get you to the outcome you desire. (remember, Bounce!) If you don’t, repeat the process. In this way, you will be much happier with the process and have more outcomes you can enjoy.

When have you let go of the outcome?

    Barry,
Nice job! This Social media stuff is ALL about putting your “stuff” out there, and letting go of the outcome, isn’t it?

Keep up the great work, Barry!

Along the lines of letting go of the outcome, I also like to weight the cost of making a bad decision versus the benefit of making a good decision. Adversity to risk can be paralyzing. I find that it helps me in making good decisions by asking myself, what is really the worst case scenario if this does not work out. Then, I can enter the situation knowing that I will never have an outcome that I am not willing to expect and I never risk more than I am willing in order to achieve my best case outcome. @KevinChern

@Kevin- as I always say- the worst they can do is eat you and that’s illegal!

  7. I always let go of the outcome when I realize said outcome is beyond my control. I can only do so much….but beyond that, there are external processes that will either assist in success or smooshilate it faster than an elephant can balance on a grape.

Life is too short NOT to let go.

Hi Barry. Thanks for a terrific post. It inspired me to write, Do you run your RCIA like a business? Maybe you should RCIA is Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, and I used your principles to encourage initiation ministers to focus on the process of initiation and not the outcome.
