I have to admit that I was cynical.
Did I want to be the 11,871,170th person to watch Susan Boyles’ performance on Youtube? I had heard that it got more views than Obama’s inaugaration speech! I had seen these shows before and I admit, I watch American Idol. But could this woman really be great?
So I watched it and I cried.
I cried first of all because we all secretly root for the underdog.
I cried because this woman knew who she was and what she wanted to be.
I cried because I was so surprised that this voice came out of this woman’s mouth. I loved watching the surprise on Simon’s face.
I cried because as one of the judges on the show, Amanda said, on reality shows, we are rooting for this plain looking woman to fail.
I cried because she was singing one of my favorite songs from Les Miz, “I Dreamed a Dream”- and in fact, being successful on the show, she fulfilled her dream.
With all the bad news around us, don’t be so cynical like I was – watch it and feel good!
