The Palm in your Lap

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Palm just introduced their first laptop..The Foleo

"Press one button and it’s on. Instantly. Press another button and watch as Foleo connects wirelessly with your smartphone to bring your inbox to the big screen.2 You can also view and edit Office documents and even run PowerPoint® presentations from it. And with up to five hours of battery life packed into such a compact design, you’ll do big things wherever you go. So leave your laptop docked at your desk more often. With the Foleo mobile companion, you carry only what you need. Not everything you have.."

I am drooling…

The Bottom of the Inbox

Monday, July 16th, 2007

When was the last time you got to the bottom of your inbox? I can never remember doing this. But with the kids gone to camp and the manuscript for the new book at the publishers, I have a bit of extra time. I actually cleaned out my entire inbox today. It was amazing what was at the bottom that I never follow up on…

Inflight Power!

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

I run out of power in my iPod or Treo frequently when I travel. Now comes a device, Infight Power,  where you can charge your music through the audio jack in your airplane seat. I can’t wait to get this little gadget.

The Perfect Gift…for defending your office!

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Some gifts I see advertised, I never knew I needed them. Take for example the USB missle launcher. As described for sale by Cyberguys,

Missle "Take control of the airspace in and around your cubicle! Use your PC to aim and launch the 3 foam missiles to secure your borders and defend your homecube. With a 15-foot range, the USB Missile Launcher is perfect for pre-emptive shock and awe strikes of nearby cubicles. Mission accomplished! Includes 3 foam missiles and control software. Requires Windows 2000/XP."

I have been looking for someway to defend my office. I am not sure how I did without this!

Start Up Tray

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

I have always hated the start up tray in the Windows operating system. It seems that every program wants to be preloaded so it runs faster. But guess what, when they are all preloaded, nothing is running fast. When I started by computer, it could take days for it to boot up.

This was until I went to Mike Lin’s web site that has a few great tools for managing the applications that start. This used in conjunction with Sysinfo’s dictionary on what all the start up files are has really speeded up my computer.

Screen Sucking

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I always knew I was ill. I just did not know what it was called. Matt McCall at VC Confidential identified it for me. Daily, I can get swallowed up by my computer and spend hours in front of it when I only meant to spend a few minutes:

"Like an alcoholic, I am addicted to LCD’s and the connectivity they bring me. Dr. Edward Hallowell has written a couple of books on the increasing craziness of our worlds these days. Interestingly enough, his core specialty is treating kids for ADD. In "Crazy Busy", he lays out a broad array of time abusers and approaches to dealing with them. He doesn’t condemn this new world but rather describes it as one of the most engaging, exciting and interactive of times. It is because of this energy that we are drawn to the rush of always connected, all the time. He refers to my illness as "Screen Sucking". Unchecked, it will consume 24 hours a day. There is always someone to send an email to or receive one. It is our generation’s IM."

You Send It

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

Many times, I want to send a file that is too large. A nifty web site allows you to send a file that is 100MB non confidentially of course. Check it out at YouSendIt.

A New Flavor of Spam

Friday, September 29th, 2006

For any of us that live in cyberspace, spam has become a part of daily life. I receive over 1000 spam messages a day compared to about 100 real ones. Most of them go into the spam bucket, but others don’t. In addition, some of the emails I want to get get classified by the email program as spam and I miss them. I accept this as a fact of using email.

But now comes a new kind of spam. Blog spam. People posting comments on my blog entries which are spam- advertising their message or website and not responding to the post. Content is king on the web, so they are trying to get people to look at their stuff another way or have the search engine spiders catalog it. A big yuck on this!

I am waiting now to receive spam text messages and spam voicemails. Can they be far behind?
