The US Government is shutdown as of October 1st.
Could a small business owner just decide to shut down their business for a week or two and then open back up again with all the revenue still due to come into their company? Sounds absurd doesn’t it?
Imagine as a small business owner having a hard time deciding what the budget would be for the coming fiscal year. Instead of moving forward, they shut their company down to come up with a strategy.. They let all of your employees go and tell their customers to just wait. A few weeks later, they decide to reopen up again. Their customers still owe them for the time you were closed and they hire all of their employees back with retro pay even though they didn’t do any work. Heck of a way to run a business?
Well when this is all over, this is exactly what the government will do. Decide on a budget, open back up again, expect all the taxes to be paid for service not rendered and pay their employees for not working. Forget who’s at fault in this political standoff. I think one thing that most small business owners can agree on is that it’s irresponsible.
If small businesses don’t have the luxury to shut down for a few weeks, why should the government? What are our leaders thinking?
