I just got done reading a book by one of Japan’s top Zen Masters, Soko Morinaga. Originally published in Japanese, Novice to Master: An Ongoing Lesson in the Extent of My Own Stupidity is a wonderful little book that translates well. I love the title of the book since I think the best way that I learn is from my own mistakes.
He starts the book from when he just entered the monastery until he became the master there. In short chapters he discusses the humility of learning everyday from others. He talks about how we need to live in the present and die every moment.
