On the Radio Show today, Sramana Mitra was our guide today. She writes a weekly column for Forbes and the widely syndicated business blog, “Sramana Mitra on Strategy“. She is also is a serial entrepreneur having founded three companies and has a wonderful book called Entrepreneur Journeys. We talked about the guidelines for a productive relationship with your spouse as your partner in business:
1. Decide who is going to be the boss. There can only be one king per company.
2. Communicate with each other constantly.
3. Work as a team. There can be no competition between the spouse.
4. How business can be an aphrodisiac.
5. The agenda for having a staff meeting in bed.
My next guests are a married couple that is very special to me. Besides being my clients, they have been my friends the past two years, leading a company called the Nia Technique which moves people from getting simply just exercising and getting fit to finding wellness in body, mind, spirit and emotions. Today, Nia has approximately 2,000 Licensed Teachers in more than 37 countries worldwide. Debbie Rosas the cofounder of Nia and Jeff Stewart, the CEO of Nia– husband and wife to the show. These two business owners are also partners with Debbie’s former spouse. There keys to success have been:
1. Committing that it is going to work. Have the hard conversations. Seek out the truth and not let things fester.
2. Put your personal relationship first. Love your spouse and be passionate about your business.
3. Remembering you are a team and a leader in the business.
My last guests were Kay and Louis Moore who are award-winning journalists, authors and publishers. Kay is a Pulitzer Prize nominee, a veteran newspaper journalist, and the author of three books, co-author of more than a dozen titles, and ghost author of more than 100 others. Her 20-year newspaper career included 14 years on the Houston Chronicle as well as being city editor of the Plano Star Courier and staff writer for United Press International. Louis was a popular religion editor and columnist for nearly 15 years for the Houston Chronicle, Texas’ largest daily newspaper. Kay and Louis Moore are the co-owners of KLMK Communications, which operates Hannibal Books and CrossHouse Publishing in Garland, TX.
