I had a wonderful trip last week speaking in front of entrepreneurs in mostly rural and mountain areas of the country. This required alot of flights on small planes and connecting through many places. I was fortunate that I made all the connections…
My first stop last week was a Farmer’s Marketing Conference in Madison, Indiana. I flew into Louisville then drove about 70 miles toward the Ohio River to the conference at Clifty State Park. The drive off the highway was beautiful and rural. No cell service and few radio stations. I just had to drive. It has been a long time since I was in a car and just drove – not being on the phone or listening to a CD/ Radio. I had forgot what it felt like to be focused on just this one thing at a time..a lost art if you ask me.
The conference was for farmers to learn how to market their products. I was the lunch speaker and of course I asked: "What do you feed a hundred farmers?"- The answer "Alot". This was a great group and the second time I had a chance to present at this type of conference. I am convinced that farmers are America’s Founding Entrepreneurs.
The next day, I went onto Waynesville, North Carolina via Atlanta via Asheville. I love going to speak to small business owners from small towns (Population of about 50,000 people). When you visit them, their hospitality is unsurpassed. One of the organizers even rubbed my feet!. Thank you, Daphne!
They are also willing to be more patient with their business. They do realize that everyday, you can’t win. There are good days and bad days and you need to weather the storm.
