My two biggest worries while on the road are wifi and power. These gadgets solve those problems.
One of Apple’s Airport Express many uses is as a compact base station on the road. When you’re in the hotel room, just plug the ethernet cable into the station and plug the station into wall. You will have your very own on-the-go wifi network. This is especially useful if you are staying in a hotel that only has ethernet cable wifi and you have a computer or tablet that does not have an ethernet connection.
- Tumi Ultra Slim Universal Power Adaptor Kit
Power is a major need on the road. It’s hard to pack every power cord you may need. These power adaptors don’t use the entire depth of your suitcase and subsequently double its weight.
This battery back takes the power worry out of the equation. The best part of it is that it does not need a separate adapter and charges with your Apple power adapter.
- Power Bag
This gadget allows you to charge your electronics while they’re sitting uselessly in your backpack. When there are no outlets in sight, you can use your backpack as a power source. Bring some water and you could last for days anywhere.
Laptops and tablets are among the items most easily stolen. This lock provides an effective way to make sure no one snags your “precious” while you’re taking a trip to the bathroom in a coffee shop.
What are your favorite power and wifi gadgets?
Barry – thank you so much for these tips! I do a lot of work remotely (like at coffee shops) and I always get super paranoid about leaving my computer with a stranger to watch when I use the bathroom. That Notebook Lock is next on my list to order!
As an alternative to the smartphone battery pack, the Mophie Juice pack is also great. It’s both an iPhone case and battery pack. It’s great – though much more expensive than that little charger you recommended.
