I have recently began thinking about how much we can learn when employees leave our company. Many people will give you good insight because they see that they have nothing to lose. Inc Magazine had a good feature on what to ask employees at the exit interview when they leave:
If the CEO left today and you were put in charge, what are the first things you would change?
What could have changed 6 months ago that would have prevented you from looking for a new job?
If you weren’t looking, what factors tipped the scale when the new opportunity came up?
Wo do you think will be the next person to resign and why?
Why didn’t you leave us sooner than now?
Describe any areas of conflict that have affected your performance or morale or that you believed affected other employees.
