I recently joined Third Tribe Marketing.  It’s the brain child of Darren Rouse (@problogger), Brian Clark (@copyblogger), Sonia Simone (Remarkable Communication) and my friend, Chris Brogan (@chrisbrogan).  They help with Internet marketing.  Their strategies “profit from the intersection of progress and pragmatism.”

I listened to my first podcast which was a conversation between Sonia (who has a great soothing radio voice) and Chris. They answered previously submitted questions from members of the Third Tribe.

Chris said something that really struck me: “Let other people change the world, you go rock your small.”

This really struck me.  When I graduated from college, I wanted to be president of IBM or some other Fortune 100 company.  But over the years, this all changed when I started my own small businesses.  I stopped wanting to save the world.  I started to want to just make a difference in the lives of the people I met, my employees and my customers.

Over the years, as I moved from small business owner to author/speaker/consultant, I realized I wanted to get small (or as Chris says, rock my small).  I only wanted to focus on helping the people I met, spoke to and who read my books.  Forget changing the world, I just wanted to help these owners get unstuck.

There is a great biblical saying that I have always remembered: “He who saves a single soul, changes the entire world.”

As small business owners, we can change the world.  Do you rock your small?
