Stephen Manes in PC WORLD had a great article in March about software that thinks it is smarter than we are. I have thought for a long time that the software on my desktop thinks it knows what is best for me and it gets me mad. As Stephen says:
"If Software was a person, it would be a big, arrogant, passive aggressive sociopath who pretends to be helpful but actually couldn’t care less about anyone else. So sorry Microsoft, But I don’t want you to upload all 80 gajillion kilobytes of Windows XP service pack 3 automatically…"
This is why for the most part, I hate to upgrade my software. It is always a scary event because the new version always says it does more but is much slower on what I want it to really do!
