I spent the last 4 days at my first National Speaker Association Workshop on Marco Island. I saw and heard so many incredible speakers that it showed me how much I have to learn. When you hear people like Mark Sanborn speak, all you can do is sit in awe. This is where learning starts- knowing how much better you could be. Janet Lapp spoke the first day about what holds us back as speakers: the need to be liked, the need to earn more business and getting only the good feedback from the audience. She talked about how arrogant (my word) speakers are to think that we do not need to practice and train like other professionals. I realized at that moment, how much training and hard work it will take to get my speaking craft to the next level. As I stated in my 2007 resolutions, I am committed to doing that for this year.
