No one is coming to help us.
If the economy is going to improve, it is up to entrepreneurs with the support of their local communities to start companies and put people back to work.
This is one of the messages that was discussed at the 5th Anniversary of the Fox Valley Technical College Venture Center in Appleton, WI. I had spoken at the first anniversary event and they invited me back for #5!
Amy Pietsch, the center director, discussed the impact that the center has had over the past 5 years. The statistics are amazing:
200+ small businesses started or expanded
500+ jobs created
13,613 residents served
Now imagine if we take Appleton, WI’s efforts and multiplied it across the hundreds of thousands of other cities in America think about what could we accomplish?
Hi Barry – I concur, as I know a lot of people in education and tech in the Fox Valley.
Today it really doesn’t matter where you are. You and I and probably most everyone else who reads this blog would agree. But where I sit I am looking at City Hall in Chicago – I doubt they, or anyone else running for mayor, realizes this!
So we almost have to ignore whatever it is they do to us and forge on… like you said, you have to be a little crazy!

Very cool!
What a great program!
Small communities are the next big community.
