I heard an interesting interview on NPR today about retail sales people losing their jobs because of store closing (Jeez, even my local Blockbuster is closing!). She gave me a perspective I had never considered.
While we are experiencing glee that we bought that shirt at 80% off, maybe she would have kept her job if we purchased it at 100%? If we still have our jobs, why are we not spending money like we did last year? Why are we so afraid?
In the end, most of us care about our own families well being and want to get a deal. As that old saying says- “It’s a recession when your neighbor is out of work, its a depression when you are out of work”. And why aren’t consumers spending their money? In a word, FEAR.
