This past weekend, I was at a Blogworld, a large social media conference. It was great to go to a conference to learn instead of to speak. That it was 80 degres in LasVegas and 40 in Chicago didn’t hurt.
If you have never been to a social media conference it is unlike anything you will ever experience:
1. The rock stars are the tech savvy folks that have figured it all out . Chris Brogan, Robert Scoble, Brian Solis, Mari Smith, Cali Lewis, and Adventure Girl. They have put alot of time and energy into this area and finally are reaping the rewards of their success.
2. The conference is a three dimensional experience. At every presentation, you are listening and watching the presenter but at the same time everyone in the audience is on a computer or handheld pda tweeting and discussing about what is being said (good and bad!)
3. It’s cool to tweet on your PDA while you are at fancy Las Vegas nightclubs. At the parties, people are drinking, tweeting and dancing. At Studio 54 at the MGM, the tweets displayed on a large screen over the dance floor!
4. People are friendly and authentic. Very little bull here. I met hundreds of people wanting to see how they could help me.
5. Let you passion just hang out: It’s a very accepting crowd. Whatever you passion is, people want to hear about it and support it!
If subsequent posts this week, I will discuss what I learned that will keep me busy for a year.
Did you go to Blogworld, what did you learn?
