In the last year when I traveled, I rarely rented cars; Uber and Lyfts became more convenient. Coronavirus changed all that since now safety is the new luxury. I am no longer interested in getting in some random person’s car because I have no idea if they ill or have a mask on. My biggest concern when I travel now is safety from Covid-19.
On the June trip to Arizona (my first since February), I decided to again to rent a car to control my environment. All things being equal, I usually rent cars from Dollar Rental Car since they are among the cheapest.
On this trip, I booked a reservation with Hertz at a 100% higher price because of safety.
Let me explain.
Hertz knows if they want to attract customers in the coronavirus pandemic they need to pivot their business to make the consumer feel safe. They have done this so effectively with their new Gold Standard Clean. process. Remember this has nothing to do with how fancy the car is or how many accessories it has; it’s only about how disinfected that car is! In their process, each auto is sealed for the customer rental after it has undergone a 15-point cleaning and sanitization process that follows U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.
They have also partnered with the airport security company, Clear to aid car check out when you arrive at the airport. Using Clear’s app with Hertz’s Fast Lane, your face is all you need to confirm your license and reservation and go to your sealed car. Hertz has adapted so I can now go from the airplane to my rental car without touching anything!
Burn your boats. Normal is never coming back.
Every company needs to rethink their business like Hertz. What do your customers so desperately need now that you can provide or partner with another company to provide them?
