When visiting my client today that runs a series of spas, I always ask him, “What does it feel like to know what you do brings so much pleasure, joy and comfort to your clients everyday?” (Pretty good, he says). Then, I got to thinking, what does it feel like to be a person that gives parking tickets (I know, some of us watch Parking Wars but I am not sure, the job is that “glamourous”.).
I mean, what does it feel like when you know that when the person comes back to their car, you will ruin their day? Maybe the parking person justifies their job by saying they are producing revenue for the city to pay for much needed services or the proverbial “I am just doing my job”.
I wonder, when I go see a client, how often do I bring pleasure and how often to I bring pain? I know that sometimes I bring pain by telling them things they do not want to hear or see. Sometimes, I bring pleasure because I show them how they can easily grow and prosper.
Do you bring pleasure or pain in service to you clients? How does that effect you?
