I do not often go "off the grid". What I mean is a total black out of all forms of communication. No cell phone, voice mail, text messaging, email, internet, or letters. I probably do this once a year for a week just to see what it is like.

This past week, while on the beach in Michigan I did this. I found I had time to read some great books:

Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell where she travels the road of three assassins that killed Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley.

Blinding Light by Paul Theroux where he as Amazon says "he has been struggling to finish a second book ever since. Things change when he flies to Ecuador in quest of a potent performance-enhancing drug. He smuggles back to the U.S. a year’s supply of the rare datura, which when ingested produces temporary blindness and a paradoxical "blinding light" that exposes truths about the world". Warning: This book is not for the prudish folks among us.

I also had alot of time to sleep and spend time with my family. I find that there are so many distractions during the course of "regular life". When there are none, you have "no choice" but to talk to each other and wonderful things can happen!
