I speak alot about how important in business (and life) it is to ride the rollercoaster up and down through good and bad times…through bad and good times. Zen says that life is about “10,000 Joys and 10,000 Sorriws” (as business is).
This was shown to me yesterday when my son played in is Park District baseball game. He had just missed an important fly ball to right field. He was sitting on the bench feeling bad for himself because of his error. But in the bottom of the last inning with the scored tied, he came up to bat. With alot of patience at the plate, he drew a walk to first base. In the next play, thorough a few errors by the other team, he was able to round the bases and score the winning run! His teammates mobbed the plate congratulating him! He had gone from goat to hero in a single game. He received a game ball from the coach!
I was glad that he was able to learn this rollercoaster lesson at his age…and that baseball had provided this opportunity.
great post, barry. and especially what a gal needs when she is buried deep beneath an infinite number of recent sorrows. here’s to joy — and a little to go around for everybody!
