For any of us that live in cyberspace, spam has become a part of daily life. I receive over 1000 spam messages a day compared to about 100 real ones. Most of them go into the spam bucket, but others don’t. In addition, some of the emails I want to get get classified by the email program as spam and I miss them. I accept this as a fact of using email.
But now comes a new kind of spam. Blog spam. People posting comments on my blog entries which are spam- advertising their message or website and not responding to the post. Content is king on the web, so they are trying to get people to look at their stuff another way or have the search engine spiders catalog it. A big yuck on this!
I am waiting now to receive spam text messages and spam voicemails. Can they be far behind?
Not sure about voice mail spam, but text message spam is all the rage. I get about three a week from ‘friends’ touting the latest HOT stocks.
Do three messages constitute ‘a rage’? Haha
Hey, even one makes you wonder where they got your number from in the first place.
Barry,
I have had many spams on my blog as well. I first installed the default WordPress plugin that prevents spams from getting online, Akismet, but I also moderate everything. I just recently added another plugin that requires the human user to answer a math question, which seems to work very well because I did not have any spam for 2 weeks!
Chris,
I had two voicemail spams last week! They were about a show and sollicited me to buy tickets. I think that followed my giving my cell phone # in an online form for a subscription… It sucks.
Spam is normal now because It is quite easy to get a lot of your private infos by many methods. So we have to accept it unless you lock your door and stay in your room.
