Moving Outlook to the cloud

I have been using Microsoft Outlook since 1997 on my desktop computer. Since my main personal email was always on Yahoo!, I would download my mail daily to Outlook. This caused several problems:

  1. I could not look at my old email or associated folders when I was traveling since it now existed only on my desktop.

  2. I could only file email in folders when I was back in my office on my desktop computer. This meant slowing down my overall productivity and wasting effort rereading emails.

  3. I would need to manually sync my calendar on Outlook with my iPhone. Frequently, I forgot to do this which caused overlapping scheduling problems.

  4. Using the Yahoo! (@yahoo.com) domain made my business look unprofessional.

This all changed this month when BizITPros, a Microsoft Partner helped me migrate my desktop version of Outlook and the 19 years of legacy files to the Office 365 version hosted in the cloud. Unbelievably, no email history was lost in the process. Now, when I travel, I have the same Outlook and all its history on my desktop, iPhone and Surface. This boosted my productivity when answering and dealing with email. All my email comes from a moltz.com domain which is a much more professional looking domain. Office 365 now automatically syncs my calendar with all my mobile devices so they are always up to date. I also really like the new “Clutter” folder. Outlook does a good job of dividing out the email that is important (Inbox), what can be read later (Clutter) and what is trash (Junk folder).

An extra benefit overlooked by having Outlook as part of Office 365 in the cloud is all the other applications (like Flow, Delve, and Sway)  that I can now take advantage.

If you have been using Outlook for a long time only on your desktop, it’s time to move to the cloud. It’s easy, safe and inexpensive! More importantly, it will work like you do- everywhere!
