Listen to “#801 Breaking the Silence: How Entrepreneurs Can Combat Panic Attacks and Online Negativity” on Spreaker.
On this episode of The Small Business Radio Show…
Segment 1 with Dr. John Dyben starts at 0:00.
The U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, has recently called for warning labels on social media platforms, and there have been a number of research and consumer articles recently about the dangers of social media, particularly to our youth. I wrote a blog post on this but there were few comments. So here we are talking about it again
In his role as Chief of Research and Innovation for Hanley Foundation in West Palm Beach, Florida, Dr. John Dyben provides support to treatment leadership through research and consultation. John continually builds upon his academic expertise through research and national speaking engagements on health science, spirituality, clinical ethics, and related topics.
Here is what I asked:
Topic relates to Social Media Addiction
- The U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, has recently called for warning labels on social media platforms. What are you seeing in your work in this area?
- Tell us more about the science behind this – what causes people to become addicted to social media, and the ‘brain training’ within these apps and games to keep people coming back.
- How are the symptoms of social media addiction similar to other types of addiction?
- The State of Florida recently passed legislation that prohibits children 14 and under from having social media accounts. What can parents and teachers, and other guardians of our youth realistically do to monitor their kids’ social media habits to prevent addiction?
- Tell us about some of the other research you’re working on at Hanley Foundation that our listeners may have interest in.
Segment 2 with Joseph Perekupka starts at 22:00
Panic attacks are not uncommon in small business owners because of the pressures we face. I was treated for panic attacks about 30 years ago and still have to deal with them very so often. What can we do to handle them.
Joseph Perekupka is the CEO of Freespira, the only company to offer a medication-free, FDA-cleared digital therapeutic treatment proven to reduce or eliminate symptoms of panic disorder, panic attacks and PTSD in 28 days. Joe is a proven healthcare leader with over 25 years of commercial experience in multiple leadership and functional medical device and digital health roles.
Here is what I asked:
- What have you found the cause of panic attacks
- People tend to associate PTSD with the military, but you’ve seen it go beyond that – can you tell us a bit about the epidemic of civilian PTSD?
- Access to healthcare can be challenging in many parts of the country, and it can be even tougher for mental health care. How do digital health solutions like Freespira help address this?
- From a patient perspective, how does Freespira work? How is it different from traditional PTSD and panic disorder treatments?
- How does the business of something like Freespira work? Do you work with doctors? Directly with patients?
