I flew to St. Paul, Minnesota on Monday. They were having 10 inches of snow. When I landed, it looked like a winter wonderland- exactly the way Minnesota is suppose to look in my mind during the winter. I rented a big car with lots of insurance :-)
Minnesota Grown Conference was my third farmers’ conference I presented at in the last 6 months. I enjoy these because real business people are talking about real problems. The one big problem that these entrepreneurs have that many others do not is the weather. How do you control that?
Somethings you can’t control, you can only manage. Growing up in Iowa – the tall corn state – I’ve seen farmers use everything from the farmer’s almanac, crop insurance, and prayer to just plain luck. All the hybrid seeds they have now are helping a lot, but no matter how good you or your seed is, no one is immune to drought, hail, frost or too much rain.
