I had the unique experience yesterday to present at two very different entrepreneurship conferences.
The first one was at The School of Entrepreneurship at Chicago’s South Shore High School. This predominantly African American high school helps focus students that want to start their own business when they graduate. It trains them early on how to get it done. It gives them choices. I asked the students what bothered them the most about starting a business they said: Failure, employees, having enough cash- Sound familiar? They are my top three too!
In the afternoon, I spoke at Kellogg Business School (Northwestern University) at their Entrepreneur’s Conference. This year, it focused financing an acquisition. It was great to see the usual bright stars and alumni (including me,1986) plus many other people that told me about their more "humble" beginnings. For many people in the audience, entrepreneurship has not been a straight path. They have stumbled here along the way.
