What I read on my summer vacation on Martha’s Vineyard:

Besides the standard Dean Koontz novel (his new one, The Good Guy is excellent), I read Geri Larkin’s latest zen book, The Chocolate Sutra. I met Geri in the early 1990’s when she quit her management consulting job to become a Zen Monk. I have been a big fan of hers since reading 10 years ago, Stumbling Towards Englightment.

One of my favorite parts of the Chocolate Sutra book is where she quotes W.E.B DuBois:

"Above all remember..that you have a great opportunity…Millions all over the world would give almost anything they possess to be where you are. You are there by no desert or merit of your own, but only by lucky chance. Deserve it then. Study, do your work. Be honest, frank, fearless and get some grasp on the real values of life. You will meet, of course, curious little annoyances…"
