We all know that disposable diapers are causing a huge landfill problem..but is reselling cloth diapers the answer? That Fat Baby, a company right here in Illinois, list used diapers for resale. I was not able to find this particular one, but Inc Magazine reports that they found a "terry cloth model with red trim and light to moderate staining". There has got to be a better way!

A better way of what? I invite you to my blog at http://www.myspace.com/thatfatbaby and read a few of my entries on cloth diapers vs. disposables. You’d be amazed how far cloth diapers have come and how awful disposable diapers are for our babies.
Are you seriously ripping on a diaper reseller because of the “light to moderate staining”?
Who’s next? Good Will? The Salvation Army?
April Dawn at ThatFat Baby is not only doing a service to parents but is a trail blazer. She was the first website to sell used cloth diapers, therefore offering another option to those parents who desperately wanted to, or even needed to (because of allergies) use cloth diapers on their babies. As far as I know she was also the first person who offered donated cloth diapers to low income families that couldn’t afford the cost at all.
There have been many copy cats since April opened ThatFatBaby (myself included) which only proves that she discovered and filled a need.
WOW. Putting down someone who is helping mama’s in need. Why am I not shocked. There is nothing wrong with selling used diapers. *I* will buy used diapers however not with stains, although I see nothing wrong with them. Used clothes are bought. Are we going to put down those who sale used clothes next? I would rather someone buy used stained diapers then to put their child in a sposie and let them marinate in the sposie cause it is made to hold a lot of pee. Get Real!! used cloth diaper changed every 1 to 2 pees Versus sposie changed every 5 to 6 hours…which would you rather be in if you were a baby?
Not everyone is able to afford the sometimes pricey start up costs of cloth diapering. That Fat Baby is providing an enormous community service by selling used, good condition diapers at far below the retail value. Many millions of people have bought at secondhand stores, thrift shops, consignment shops – those clothes are certainly not in pristine condition at all times. And I’d even wager on a stain or two. Heck, who exactly even knows what was done in those clothes? Do we have a guarantee they weren’t vomitted in, that a child didn’t have an accident in them, or worse, someone bled on them? Of course not. Thank goodness for clothes washers! Those who are concerned about our effect on the world around us know that recycling, even down to the clothes and diapers we and our children use, is the only way we have to lessen our impact.
You have got to be kidding me. Cloth diapers are not only better for baby but also better for the world. We received a large number of hand me down cloth diapers from a friend, and thank goodness she was willing to share her good fortune. That Fat Baby is doing something that is necessary for those of us who wish to make better choices for our families, but can’t affor to pay upwards of $12-$15 per diaper to do it. Have you never purchased anything from Good Will or the Salvation Army or worn something given to you from a friend? Or put hand me down clothes on your children? Shame on you to putting down not only the woman supporting such a market, but also those of us who choose to do so.
I guess to some people it can sound kind of gross to buy used cloth diapers, especially if they are stained. But come on, used cloth is better for the environment than new cloth. think recycle! And used cloth is better for baby than no cloth. I will never put those chemical laden disposables on my children again. Cloth diapering has a huge up front cost. Some parents just can’t afford it in the beginning. Way to go April Dawn!! Thank you for providing new and expectant moms with an affordable option!! And FYI not all used diapers are stained or in bad condition. ThatFatBaby sells lots of like new condition diapers. As a courtesy to would be buyers, she includes info on anything that may be undesirable about a particular diaper. Then she lets the parents decide wether or not they want to purchase stained diapers. Stains don’t bother me, I haven’t met a stain I couldn’t eliminate.
I can’t believe it. First, ANY cloth diaper is better than disposable. Second, some people can’t afford to spend lots of $$ on brand new diapers, and the resale value on diapers is awesome. Most moms take such care as to avoid stains all together and end up with used that look brand new. April Dawn at ThatFatBaby.com does a great service by selling diapers at great prices.
Well, I guess it’s a good thing we live in the USA… You can express your opinion and stupidity and we can educate you in the real world of cloth diapering…
Why Use Cloth Diapers?
