One of the lost skills in our business world even with email and voice mail is our ability to tell another person, "no". We mostly either tell them not now and put them off or we just do not answer them, still giving them hope that someday it may be yes. I can’t count the number of times a good prospect has stopped returning my calls. All I wanted was a "no".

Having the guts to tell someone no saves us all alot of time for all of us. In this month’s edition of Business 2.0, Richard Branson of Virgin Group discusses the importance of always getting back to people even if it is no. It shows alot of respect for others in business and in the long run, it is good for building your business, not a waste of time.

I wish I could instill in all business people the courage to say no. We would all be better for it.
