“Well, it would’ve been, could’ve been worse than you would ever know.
Oh, the dashboard melted, but we still have the radio.”- Lyrics from “Dashboard” by Modest Mouse
As I was listening to this song this morning, this sums up my attitude toward the current economic climate that most of us find ourselves. Carnage is all around us and the media reinforces it everyday- the financial dashboard of our economy, our financial savings, and our customer base has literally melted in many cases...and we need to remember, that we still have the radio… that is, we still have the engine that makes our business and our lives run. We still have the passion, the vision, the drive and the desire to succeed at something that we enjoy and that supports our families during these tough times. This is ground zero during 2009.
As I have said repeatedly on my blog, as people involved in small business, we are the lucky ones in 2009. It only takes one or two extra customers to have a good year. We are not weighted down by large overheads and organizations. We don’t need to give up the corporate jet. We only need to work hard, find and create opportunities so can have a few more things go our way this year. If we hold tight the the radio we still have inside us, we will be calling 2009 “a pretty good year”.
This is great! You are right about small business!!!! One or two opportunities can hold us up! Even if most of our customers shrink they provide a foundation for those great opportunities. Mining all contacts and networking networking networking helps you find them…..don’t give up!
