I stopped making New Year’s resolutions about 10 years ago.

I found that my resolutions were a focus on what I had done wrong the previous year and what I had to make right in 2022. Resolutions had me looking backward and remembering the negative; what I did wrong last year instead of looking forward and committing to more positive and quite frankly better goals.

Many years ago, I wrote about a ritual we did in my Seido karate practice called Kagami Biraki, literally means “Mirror Opening”. It was a samurai tradition focusing on renewal, rededication and spirit dating back to the 15th century. It prepares us for the year ahead.

For 2022, this is definitely something that we all need as we enter the third year of the COVID pandemic. We are all tired of the restrictions, the masks ,the stress and fear of it all. We need this renewal of our body, mind and spirit.

Now is a time to commit to what we want to achieve in 2022; to put I stake in the ground and say, “this is what I want to do this year for myself, my company, my customers, my family and my friends.” Make no more than four to five goals

This statement also enables you to go on record and hold yourself accountable for a result.

Here is my list of targeted achievements for 2022:

  1. Have a strong rollout of my new book, “ChangeMasters” (delayed due to supply chain issues from 2021) to help people make the changes they want in their business and life.
  2. Sell three companies for other entrepreneurs.
  3. Hike or bike 6 days a week. Hike the top 60 trails in Phoenix and bike across Wisconsin. (225 miles)
  4. Have more friends visit us in Arizona in the winter and fall.
  5. Learn a new sport with Sara (Pickleball anyone?).

What are you going to achieve in 2022?
