My son recently wanted a subscription to a magazine I never heard of call Poets and Writers. Guess he has outgrown MAD Magazine. I recently discovered through their many emails and direct mail pieces to me that I had paid the subscription for this year twice. I promptly wrote them and received this email:
“Your customer service request has been processed.
Please allow 5 – 7 days for a response.
Below is a copy of the information you submitted”
Processed? boy, does that sound personal? :( and 5-7 days? in this world of 24/7 how can anyone expect to wait 5-7 days? This is why the printed word is falling behind the online word, podcast and video. Our expectations of what constitutes good customer service rises every day as a result of online.
I couldn’t agree more. Had I received a similar message, I would be on the horn to my CC company getting the charges reversed.
Processed.
5 to 7 days.
Indeed.
yup, call to CC company already done!

The worst thing is when they fail to contact you in that time period.
The company I get my electricity from is notorious for not answering my emails. I end up having to phone them up. If they provide email as a means of contact they should answer it.
I’m new to your blog/twitters and looking forward to learning from you.
I get the complaint in this post, but here’s a gentle counterpoint and shout-out re Poets & Writers: It is the magazine I recommend most highly to people who aspire to be published as fiction and narrative nonfiction writers–both short and long forms. High caliber writing, insight, inspiration, how-to. P&W is a nonprofit and well worth checking out. http://www.pw.org/
