Forbes today ranked Chicago as one of the most miserable cities. I don’t buy it. I have lived here since 1981 and call Chicago my home. It’s a great city:
1. It is beautiful. Built along Lake Michigan, its beaches, lake and parks are accessible to all.
2. It has all the culture you will ever want to experience of a world class city- arts, music, theatre and on and on with wonderful people to go along with it.
3. For a big city, it is very clean compared to NYC and LA.
4. It is one of the greenest cities in America.
5. Join us for the 2016 Olympics!
6. Home to President Barack Obama, Oprah and Michael Jordan. Enough said!
What do you think of Chicago?
This is ridiculous – the forbes criteria don’t take into consideration any of the GOOD things about big cities – lots of jobs, culture, nightlife, dining, education (chicago has 2 of the top 15 universities in the country), travel (nonstop flights to anywhere in the world).
Chicago also has many wonderful residential neighborhoods that are safe and leafy within 15-30 minute walk of (or a few minutes bus or subway ride) downtown. The West Loop, South Loop, Old Town, Wicker Park, etc are all wonderful places to live.
Forbes – give me a break – your criteria is silly.
7. Great sports city: Cubs, White Sox, Bulls, Bears, Blackhawks
8. Diverse city with a wide range of cultural activity. One the largest Irish and Polish populations in the world, for example.
9. The neighborhoods.
Though I could do without 10.25% sales tax…

Chicago can be a better city. It needs to invest in infrastructure, and keep its intense effort to eliminate corruption. But, the most miserable big city? I think the folks in Detroit might even question this moniker. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com
